However, if you dig into his record, from voting for increased restrictions on abortion to overturning the will of the people on an increase to the minimum wage and costing taxpayers more than a quarter million dollars, it\u2019s clear Nolte is the wrong choice for Missouri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here are five things to know about Jerry Nolte:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Nolte repeatedly voted to restrict access to abortion. <\/strong>While in Jefferson City, Nolte joined his Republican colleagues in Jefferson City to put <a href=\"https:\/\/justfacts.votesmart.org\/bill\/6814\/18828\/39809\/prohibiting-coerced-abortion#18828\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restrictions on abortion access<\/a> in 2008.<br \/><\/li><li><strong>Nolte voted to restrict access to birth control.<\/strong> As a state representative, Nolte <a href=\"https:\/\/justfacts.votesmart.org\/bill\/6367\/17572\/39809\/defining-mifepristone-as-a-schedule-1-controlled-substance#17572\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted<\/a> to make mifepristone \u2013 the medical abortion pill \u2013 a Schedule 1 drug equivalent to heroin, LSD, or ecstacy.<br \/><\/li><li><strong>Nolte\u2019s bad behavior cost Clay County taxpayers $354,227.<\/strong> As a Clay County Commissioner, Nolte was accused of inappropriate behavior, including harassment and retaliation by five top county employees. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article246969197.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">settlement<\/a> was reached with the employees costing taxpayers $354,227.<br \/><\/li><li><strong>Nolte voted to overturn a voter-approved minimum wage increase. <\/strong>While in the House of Representatives, Nolte voted to overturn a voter-approved minimum wage increase and lower wages for tipped employees. He cosponsored legislation to <a href=\"https:\/\/house.mo.gov\/Bill.aspx?bill=HB1851&amp;year=2008&amp;code=R\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lower the minimum wage<\/a> after voters approved an increase by ballot measure in 2006. Paid sick leave with another minimum wage increase is likely to be on the ballot again this November.<br \/><\/li><li><strong>Nolte sides with big business over everyday Missourians.<\/strong> At the start of the 2012 legislative session, Nolte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/kansascity\/news\/2012\/01\/20\/gladstone-rep-cut-missouri-business.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stated<\/a> he would work to cut Missouri\u2019s business taxes in half.
